In this 3 hour in-person class, I will offer my extensive knowledge on natural dyeing and will also offer demonstrations on various dyeing techniques. We will begin class with me providing a brief presentation, where I introduce dye history and techniques and will also discuss various ways in sourcing materials and how you can create a more sustainable practice with it. This talk will also include a few contemporary artists working with the material, as a source of inspiration. I will then demonstrate the process, the yarn preparation process including preparation for shibori, ikat/resist dye, dip dye, bundle dye and how you can achieve interesting patterns in your textiles.. Lastly, I will discuss the rinsing and then care and keeping of your material.
